Career Progression at SAS
First Officers will begin their careers flying state-of-the-art Airbus A320 or Embraer 190 aircraft, navigating a variety of operational challenges across busy international airports and more remote locations. SAS provides a clear career pathway, with opportunities to transition into commanding roles, including Captain positions and long-haul A350 operations.
Minimum Requirements
- Valid EASA license: ATPL(A), CPL(A), or MPL, with necessary Scandinavian conversion if required.
- EASA Class 1 Medical Certificate
- Instrument Rating (IR)
- Completion of the Advanced UPRT course
- English proficiency (Level 5 or higher)
- EU residency and work rights
- Clean criminal record

Training & Application Process
Qualified applicants will undergo an online assessment to evaluate skills and potential. Those who progress will be invited for an assessment day, including a group exercise, personal interview, and simulator evaluation. Travel expenses for assessments are the applicant’s responsibility.
Successful candidates will begin training at the earliest available session, with start dates in winter, spring, and late summer 2025. SAS fully covers training costs post-employment. Pilots hired after April 2025 must agree to a training bond of:
- 250,000 DKK/SEK/NOK if leaving within 36 months
- 100,000 DKK/SEK/NOK if leaving within 24 months after renewing a type rating
