Overall, the experience was good. A six-person panel (4 pilots and 2 people from HR) waited for me in the room. Speak clear and slow to get your point across as English is not their first language. Communication is key!
Initially I talked about myself (make sure you know your CV). They want to know if you are adaptable enough to rise above language and cultural differences and if you are generally a good fit into their team. I did not get asked a lot of technical stuff. Predominantly they asked about my flying background. I think I had some general ATPL knowledge questions like: What is the Tropopause? Or what is Mcrit? But that was it.
The simulator is the dealbreaker. Of course, they don’t expect you to fly as if you are type rated on the 767 but they expect to see your command ability and especially your ability to work with foreign FO that are limited in their English.
They don’t expect perfection, but they want to see some progression towards the end of the evaluation. Study the simulator preparation/ guidelines in depth as it helped me a lot. I got called after the sim the same evening that they want to progress to the medical stage. Good luck to all trying out for this Job. It is a great experience and a great company to work for from all what I have seen and heard so far. The process was very straight forward and fair.
The interview started at 6pm. I was the only person interviewing, the second person bailed at the last second. I had a five-panel interview, 3 training captains and 2 HR personnel. They did not smile a lot but were very pleasant and professional.
The interview was led by one of the HR interviewers, who had the schedule for the interview written on the board and went over it anyway. They all speak reasonably good English, some more than others. I can only give the same advice others have given. Speak quietly. Relax. Do not be aggressive or loud. Smile, but do not crack jokes or laugh out loud. Keep your hands on the table in plain sight. It is considered rude otherwise.
The orientation took approximately 30 minutes. The panel interview (normally one-on-one if more than one candidate is being interviewed) took around 1hr. They asked some technical stuff I cannot remember anymore and lots of HR based questions based on my CV.
The toughest part was the simulator which went for about 2hrs including pre simulator briefing. The simulator was exactly as described in the simulator notes. I did pass it and got the recall for the medical. Good luck for everyone trying for this gig.
