I am non type rated: My assessment was in total two days. First day we had to do a theory exam. The following things I remember: five questions about the company (bases, CEO, most westerly destination, first flight), seven math questions (556 multiplied by 21 or so, conversions from kt to m, percentage calculations, seven workers paint an airbus in 6 days, how long….and so on), ATPL knowledge (you get METARs and need to find the lowest cloud base, pictures of flap and winglets, some altimetry exercises) and other questions I can’t even remember. Your questions definitely helped a lot. Thank you!!!!
Then we had the group exercise: There was a plane that was AOG and we had to fix it as soon as practicable. Spare parts and transport times from different planes had to be organized and the best solution was the task. Be yourself and find the solution together. There was only one guy who did not say a word.
Then we had the sim: Raw data flying for me. They give you a preparation guide which is quite helpful. Do the same as you see there. I took a sim session as preparation before. Two instructors will help you in the assessment. No worries. They just want to see basic handling skills ; )

To make it short:
– 90 questions test: knowledge about Wizz Air (how many bases in Poland, the furthest destination in the north and south, the current CEO)
– Math proportional – antiproportional questions: fractions (1/4 multiplied by ¼), variables b(c-1) = a, scale calculation 1:100000 – 6cm. tan from 90 degrees. A wheel has a diameter of 60cm, how many meters you can archive when the wheel spins for 3 times. Triangle with two angels of 60 degrees, how much has the third one? A Train leaves BOFAR at 10:00h with 140km/h and Train B leaves SOFAR at 10:30 with 90km/h. The question is where they meet. As I heard these math calculations are only for type rated pilots.
– English synonyms: mandatory, to suspend, applicable, animated…
– ATPL questions: a lot of questions from aerodynamic (CG acts on…., anhedral/dihedral wings, Tuck under, how does a piston engine work, coordinated turns – how to kick the ball)
– Airbus Questions: limitations and system related questions (DC essential is supplied by…., Oxygen for pax, green and yellow hydraulic question are connected by each other by….)
– Group exercise: Five different aircraft with five different destinations and also with five different colors/parking stand/cargo. Which one is leaving to a specific time and destination? As a tip I can recommend using the flipchart and draw a table with the aircraft horizontal and all other facts in vertical position. Then it’s easier to visualize.
– HR interview: Why do you want to fly with Wizz air. Which base do you prefer? Previous flying expertise. Describe yourself in four words. Nothing really to prepare.
– Technical Interview: Draw the electrical system of an airbus. Memory items and a lot of questions about the Low visibility procedures on your aircraft.
– Next day sim: Basic flying and single engine ILS Raw Data Approach.
Day1
There was a company presentation about topics like salaries, bases, working days and about the fleet growth in the near future. This took nearly an hour and after that we had a group exercise – topic was the AOG of an airplane in our fleet. One essential part of the airplane is at airport A and the other essential part is at airport B. Now we had to find the best solution which will be the earliest time to bring the aircraft back into service. As usually the goal was the way how to find the solution. Teamwork is important – integrate everyone in the discussion.
After the group exercise, we had to go through the HR interview. They asked me why I wanted to start with Wizz air, which base I would prefer, and what to expect as a pilot from the company. After that I had my technical interview: the provided questions from easyflighttraining helped a lot. Without you I wouldn’t have passed.
Mostly they asked me about LOW VIS (Cat1 RVR, ceiling minima), Deicing and anti-icing, TCAS Climb RA at the operational ceiling, FORDEC situations and much more.
Day2
Simulator day. Straight departure out of EGKK, climb to 5000ft, some basic Airwork, engine failure (short FORDEC), turnback for ILS Approach with Go Around.
Here my share of experience with the WIZZ Air Assessment.
After personal interview, they have a technical interview where they ask about memory items, LVPS – how many lights you have to see during approach on CAT 2 or CAT 3. They also ask to draw any of the schematics of the aircraft systems, fuel electrics, bleed and so on or limitations and other questions on runway lights. They also ask for radio failure procedures.
Then there was the simulator assessment. If non-rated and no jet experience they check basic flying skills. If you are non-rated but have jet experience, they check raw data flying with auto thrust on the ILS. For rated pilots and low hours – engine vibration after take-off and before you intercept you will get an ILS approach with auto thrust off and FD guidance without AP. If you are experienced, its engine fire on take-off followed by wind shear toga, heavy turbulence all until landing. The auto pilot and auto thrust fails once you complete the engine out procedure. The fire will not go out then. It helps if your PNF is not someone way below standard.

Just read the feedback above and I agree, it seems that WIZZ does not take type rated pilots. Only those that have high hours and are close to upgrade. To me it seemed that they only look to sell their type rating trainings or take rated FOs with high number of hours as they are short on captains and desperately searching for those. It is a joke to pay for a type rating with this low payment and conditions they offer.
What I heard is that the pilots fly close to 100 hours per month. In the presentation they admit to flying 900 hours per year.

I’ll start on the second day which was focused on technical interview, HR interview with 2 guys. One was responsible for tech interview and the other for the HR interview, but they swap. Both very nice and always tried to help you.
Tech interview, one captain checks your documents and the other captain is the interviewer and reviews your pilot datasheet asking questions related to the type of aircraft you currently fly, some general questions as well but mainly related to the topic you had the most difficulties with during your test on the first day. So prepare yourself on those! Here are my questions:
– What is the biggest advantage of A320 to the aircraft you currently fly
– What is the maximum fuel capacity of the aircraft you fly
– What is the approx. fuel burn during climb and cruise of the aircraft you fly
– What means “contingency fuel”
– What is minimum legal fuel you have on board upon landing
– What would you do if you do a go-around and you just started to burn diversion fuel however you know that weather in alternate airport is at minima and the current airport you just made the go-around is good weather and has 2 runways
– What is the minima for CAT 2 approach in your current company
– What is maximum and minimum in LVTO
– Some weather and METAR/TAF related questions followed
My questions were quite easy, but others had more difficult ones like how is Mach tuck prevented on your aircraft and how is Dutch roll prevented on the aircraft you currently fly. And also explain how you would recognize these faults.
The HR interview was more difficult. They dig in deeply and ask questions about your behaviour in the cockpit.
– Have you ever had an emergency or conflict in the cockpit
– What do you expect from Wizzair
– What is the biggest mistake you did in the cockpit/ how did I react/ what you do something differently thinking back/ did you do something wrong/ do you think the tea was efficient/ were you efficient in this situation/ did you have any difficulties and what were those is yes
They said there are 2 pools of pilots. There is a possibility for self-sponsored type ratings or the type rating cost being deducted from the salary every month. Self-sponsored it costs 11.900 EUR and under Wizzair salary deduction 15.000 EUR. There might be some VAT deduction for the self-sponsored programme but they could not sufficiently answer this specific question.

I applied for Wizz Air as FO. First day it starts with a presentation made by HR – company, contracts, salary. Focus on company part if you did not check prior as first 5 questions out of 90 are related to the company.
My HR interview was about introducing myself, naming 3 strengths and weaknesses, then the questions what CRM is and what my plans are for the next 5 years. That was all. They check your background for which airlines you have been flying. It helps if you have a major airline in your CV.
Second step was the technical interview. Questions were, if you stand with your back to the wind in northern hemisphere, where is low pressure centre. Next question was, how fog and clouds are formed. Next, name CAT1 numbers and then, what is critical engine and VMC. Last I remember was, how can you figure out that one engine failed? There were some more questions similar to these.
The next step was the Simulator Assessment. There were no type rated pilots. Here are the details: Take-off RWY26L at EGKK. Clean up. Accelerate to 250kts and climb to 5000 ft. Standard rate turns left and right followed by steep turns. Climb 12000 and accelerate 300kts. Descend 2500. ILS approach RWY26L EGKK. They look on CRM and manoeuvres.

Hi fellow candidates: I applied as Non type rated Captain (B737). On the first day they started with a presentation. For my surprise we didn’t write an ATPL test. Amazing. Even though I learned like hell. Of course, I was more than happy.
Generally, I had the feeling that only the Captains didn’t have to write a test. I think they know why…the group on this day only existed of Captains. Next step was a group exercise with different planes of different destinations, colors and loading. We had to find out which airplane is flying to which destination. We had no solution in the end.
Next was a technical interview. The asked about Wizz air, why you want to leave your current company, the minima for LVTO, when to use the MEL/CDL, flight planning, reduced contingency fuel procedure and other decision stuff (landing below minimum fuel).
Also, some stuff I never thought about: TCAS during emergency descent?
Last questions were about my current type: Systems, limitations and Memory items.
On the second day we then had to go to the simulator. Not too easy – but since I was not type rated they didn’t made it to complicated. At least we had to fly everything Raw Data with the help of the autothrottle. Small LOFT session: Cargo door open. Just do the same decision-making process as in your current type. Very nice atmosphere.

First 5 questions are company related, next 5 questions are understanding of English from procedures. Next 30 questions are math with no calculator allowed. Last 40 questions are related to general knowledge – air law, power plant, ops, nav, human. Forgot 10 questions were HR related. This is all done in 90 minutes followed by a HR group exercise.

My interviews last for two days. Total candidates were 12.
1. Day
The team from Wizz air started with the general presentation. You can ask many questions as you like (several questions about terms and conditions). Afterwards we had to do the 60-question test. This test included questions about the company as destinations, bases, first flight and CEO. Furthermore, you got some technical stuff. As far as I can remember most of it was related to aerodynamics, flap systems, taxi light system, Minimum safe altitudes and other questions from Operational Procedures and Air Law. The goal mark is 75%. But it also depends on the result of the other candidates. If everyone is really good, they might even fail people with more than 75% (that’s what I heard from previous assessment candidates). The problem is that you don’t get the result after the test.
Afterwards you directly continue with the group exercise. As expected, we got the group exercise with the 5 different airplanes. There are 5 different airplanes with 5 different colors at the tail. All are with different destinations, nationalities, cargo and departure times. You have to sort them and find out which airplane has which cargo and which destination.
We got 15 minutes and were not able to solve the problem. But that is not important. The assessor will sit in the corners and make notes about your behavior within the group. As always, I can recommend staying in the middle ground.
Then I had directly to continue with the technical interview. Two people from HR, a Captain and a First Officer where sitting in front of me. Generally, the atmosphere was really nice.
First questions where about me and my motivation to join Wizz air. Afterwards the asked me about meteoritical conditions like clear air turbulence, mountain waves and windshear conditions. Furthermore, the asked me some technical questions about my current type (B737 – hydraulic pressure, flaps position).
After the interview they send us home and we had to wait for an email with the invitation for the next day. Luckily, I made it to the next day!
2. Day
The second day was simulator. Some minutes before the simulator you receive the lido charts.
They have different scenarios planned so everyone gets a different one. As a Non type rated pilot I did a normal takeoff followed by turning climbs and descends at 1000fpm. After that exercise I was cleared direct to a VOR for a holding. On the way to the fix I also had to prepare for the approach and did a short briefing. Afterwards I was cleared for the standard ILS approach passing the fix. The ILS was quite stable – have a look into the A320 PFD. (The track line is very helpful).
That was it – now waiting for results. Overall, I can say that you need some preparation for the assessment especially for the technical question. I can recommend FASTTRACK ATPL and ACE book.

here is a short feedback on my WIZZ Air assessment.
Technical questions: I was interviewed by two guys, from which one was speaking very low so that I had to concentrate and pay much attention to understand. He was the one asking questions, like the following:
– How many memory items are there and where can you find them?
– What would you do if the captain is pilot flying and you call rotate but the captain does not rotate? What would you do differently – is this a pan or mayday call?
– If you have a wet runway and flaps and slats stuck at 0, how do you find out how long the runway should be?
– What do you do if an engine fails at rotate? When is the engine secured?
In the meanwhile, the second guy of the interview checked my logbook and license. They are apparently very picky on the total hours. No simulator hours count, they should not be added to flight time.
In total 10 people made it for the simulator assessment from which 8 were non-rated and two cadets. None of the rated pilots made it! I heard that there are 2 assessments per week with approx. 20 to 25 pilots which would sum up to 100 guys per month, I guess.
I can only advice to get well prepared. Rated pilots with thousands of hours did not make it, they are picky. Good luck!

The assessment includes a technical test, group exercise, HR interview, technical interview and SIM.
1. Technical Test:
This was quite difficult but if your general knowledge is good than it should be no problem. The pass rate is 70%. It started with company relevant questions – name of the CEO, first flight (from where and when), what bases do they have in their network. Then it continued with general math questions – use of Pythagoras for distance = time*speed. Then problem solving math questions followed. English knowledge questions were next. Technical questions – what is QTE, QUJ, QDM. Study chart projections. Mercator and Lambert. Conical and cylindrical. Straight or curved lines and rhumb lines. Air masses (continental, polar etc.) – what do they contain and where do they exist. There were questions on how altimeter and VSI is affected by a Pitot tube blockage – not affected, only if static port is blocked. At what stage does the anvil on a CB form – it is mature stage. What is interference drag, form drag, profile drag, induced drag. What does winglets do – reduce induced drag or reduce total drag. What is VMD and what is the Angle of attack. Generally, it is a good idea to look into the books again or to use your study questions. Thanks for the chat before I went there – that really helped me to get some good information’s.
2. Group exercise:
there is not much to say other than stay calm and participate in the discussion. At least everyone in our group said something and no one tried to take the leadership. I think that helped a lot and we nearly had a solution. Even though the solution is not mandatory!
3. HR interview:
those were typical HR questions, 25 minutes duration – why you choose WIZZ Air, tell us about a conflict and how you solved it, do you make plans for vacation or do you just go (keep in mind to show them that you are organized), what are your career goals, what is an ILS (also try to explain it for someone that has no knowledge about aviation), what is CRM, what is a good landing for you, your worst experience in a flight deck so far.
4. Technical interview:
after checking your logbook, they ask you questions for 25 minutes. Questions were about minimums, RVSM – separation, between what levels, half circle rules (0-180 is odd levels), what do you do if RVR is down below minimum when you are at distance 10, fuel planning, what is final reserve – how much, when 30, when 45, where can you use it (overhead dest. alternate, 1500 ft), contingency fuel – when 3%/5% (5 minutes at 1500 ft), what is Hold Over Time – when does it start. There were also questions on the aircraft – icing systems, what powers the different systems. I recommend to study electric system, fuel system, hydraulic and pneumatic. They try to help you and are very nice, so no worries about getting nerves. More questions I can’t remember. But as we the technical test a good preparation is essential.
5. Simulator assessment:
They are also very nice, try to help as they want you to pass. A320 raw-data take-off. Airwork, steep turns in 45 degrees in climb and descend. Speed reductions and level changes. Vectors for raw-data ILS – be gentle on the stick. They look at CRM. Listen carefully to the instructors.

I went to Wizz Air assessment early 2019. Low hour pilot with TR. Company introduction, ATPL questions and then a panel interview with 2 captains and 2 HR people. Initially they started with questions like: Tell us about your career. Why did you apply for Wizz Air. Any incidents in the past etc.
Then the 2 Captains started asking me technical stuff like IFR fuel requirements (Tax, Trip…), decode METAR. What would you do if the Captain smells of alcohol? The whole thing was not very difficult, but you need to polish up your ATPL knowledge. I used your questions database and it worked great. Thanks heaps!
My interview was end of 2018 as non rated First Officer. The technical questions I´ve got: metar and taf followed by fuel planning for an IFR flight. Then I had to draw the electrical system of my aircraft and the starter. The HR lady was super nice, and the question were like: Why do you want to work for us? Tell us about your career.- no surprises.
Simulator was as per the briefing. I struggled with the layout of the Simulator as I am not used to glass cockpit, but I prepared with an airbus session and MS Flight simulator.
The interview was in total two days. Total attending candidates were 12.
After the presentation we started with the Questions Test (ATPL and other) for 60 minutes. The test had a lot of questions about the company like to name the CEO, bases and engine type of the airbus. Other topics as flaps, minimas and maximum altitude over a point on the chart were asked. Not too complicated – but some preparation is necessary. The pass mark is 75%. But as I heard that doesn’t necessary mean that everyone over this mark will pass. The results from the other candidates also will be taken in consideration. That also gives people a chance thar might be below 75% to pass this round. Then they will be further examined in the group exercise. So please make it easier for yourself when you make a good result in the first part.
The next exercise what the group exercise. For this they split the group in half and gave us the following task:
There are five different aircraft with different tail color, destination, nationalities, cargo and different departures times. We had to find out where they are going and what each aircraft is carrying on board. And specific they wanted to know in the end which one carries furniture.
The given time is 15 minutes. As usual in this kind of test it’s hard to make it to the end and have a decision. I think it’s more about the attitude and the individual behavior in the group.
In total three candidates didn’t make it in the next round.
After this part the individual candidates had to do their HR and technical interview.
As accessor there were two people from HR and one Captain and one First Officer.
The following things were asked in my interview:
– Different turbulence (windshear, mountain waves, clear air)
– Weather minima, ATIS decoding, METAR
– Technical questions about my current type
The HR question part was about my motivation, why Wizz Air and why not easyJet or Ryanair, my CV and studies.
After this the first day was finished and we could go home or in the hotel.
We had to wait for an email with our results.
I luckily past the first day and was scheduled for the sim already early in the morning. They put me together with another candidate. Since I am unexperienced, they just wanted to see the basic stuff as turns, steep turns, climbing and descending turns. After the Airwork we were cleared for the ILS Approach. Full stop landing – that was it.

Thanks for your help and here is my short Wizz Air feedback. The assessment is as described. Company presentation (pay attention), then ATPL questions and Interview. Some standard HR questions and then some technical stuff like LVP (Cat2 & 3) and I had to draw some aircraft systems. Then some limitations. I used your preparation and it was a great help.
In the simulator they checked my basic flying skills with ATHR off and an engine fire with windshear and turbulence until landing. We did the fire procedure as per the book and we landed with fire still burning. At some point they failed the Auto Pilot too, so I had to fly the ILS manual.
There are no traps in the assessment but make sure you prepare.
