European Flight Academy prepares future Lufthansa Group pilots in integrated ab-initio programmes, combining theory, flight training and airline-focused selection. Training takes place in Bremen, Grenchen and Goodyear.
Cadet Pilot Selection Process
DLR: Certificate Cockpit for EFA / LHG (Ab-Initio)
Stage 1 of the DLR Certificate Cockpit selection for ab-initio pilots at European Flight Academy (EFA) and Lufthansa Group (LHG) pathways. The on-site test is offered in German or English at DLR locations in Milan, Hamburg and Zurich.
LHG Assessment (Lufthansa Group)
The LHG Assessment is stage 2 of the ab-initio pilot selection process for EFA and Austrian Airlines. In Hamburg or Zurich, candidates complete psychological exercises, an interview and location-specific psychomotor tests.
Application Process
Applications are submitted online. After documents and eligibility have been reviewed, suitable candidates are invited to the selection stages. Invitation and processing times can vary with application volume, programme route and assessment capacity; candidates should apply early and monitor their applicant portal and email.
Selection Process
The EFA/Lufthansa Group ab-initio selection begins with the DLR Certificate Cockpit assessment, available in German or English at DLR locations in Milan, Hamburg or Zurich. Successful candidates proceed to the one-day LHG Assessment at Interpersonal in Hamburg or the SWISS Flight Crew Assessment Center in Zurich, depending on the application route and allocation. It includes psychological elements such as interview and group exercises. Hamburg uses MOZARD, ideally trained with a joystick, and the Multitasking Color Tank Test; Zurich uses the Apparatus Test (Gubsomat), ideally trained with a yoke. SPHAIR is a separate Swiss DLR screening route for commercial, jet and helicopter pilot pathways.
