Flight School
European Flight Academy (EFA)
European Flight Academy is the Lufthansa Group’s ab-initio pilot school, training future airline pilots through integrated ATPL programmes at Bremen, Grenchen and Goodyear, with selection via DLR and Lufthansa Group assessment stages.
Cadet Pilot Selection Process
DLR: Certificate Cockpit for EFA / LHG (Ab-Initio)
DLR Certificate Cockpit is stage 1 of ab-initio pilot selection for European Flight Academy and Lufthansa Group pathways. Held in Milan, Hamburg and Zurich in German or English, it assesses key aptitude areas for aspiring pilots.
LHG Assessment (Lufthansa Group)
The LHG Assessment is stage 2 of ab-initio pilot selection for European Flight Academy and Austrian Airlines. It is held in Hamburg or Zurich and combines psychological exercises with location-specific psychomotor tests.
Application Process
Apply online through EFA with the required eligibility information and documents. Following an initial review, eligible candidates are invited to the selection stages; invitation and scheduling times depend on application volume and the chosen programme. A valid Class 1 medical certificate is required before training begins.
Selection Process
Selection begins with the DLR Certificate Cockpit screening at DLR locations in Milan, Hamburg or Zurich and can be taken in German or English. Successful candidates then attend the one-day Lufthansa Group Assessment at Interpersonal in Hamburg or the SWISS Flight Crew Assessment Center in Zurich. It includes psychological exercises, interview and group elements, plus psychomotor testing. Hamburg may include MOZARD and the Multitasking Color Tank Test; Zurich uses the Gubsomat apparatus test. SPHAIR is a separate Swiss DLR screening pathway for commercial, jet and helicopter pilot applicants.
